miss catherine

Catherine Campbell print (Frankie Calander 2011)

We all know that my fav artist is Kat MacLeod... but in very close second is Catherine Campbell, another gorgeous Australian artist.

I bought her In Our Nature print via etsy, which sits framed on my chest of drawers. I have gifted her Little Paper Cuts and Empty as a Pocket print to friends. They loved them of course!

Prints are around AU$25... totally affordable! See her folio on her website, or buy through Etsy.

tribal and tradition

Set You Free neckpiece in silver by Sass & Bide (top left)
Free Folk bag by Urban Originals via General Pants (top right)
Magic Carpet bag by Miss Brown via General Pants (bottom left)
Dark Wolf byzantine ring in silver by Sass & Bide (bottom right)

Team embroidery bags with tribal jewelry!

I'm not sure whether I can pull off the embroidery bag, but I've had my eye on them since I went to Vietnam in 2006. I love the Magic Carpet Bag by Miss Brown, but still second guessing whether I would have the guts to walk down the street with it hanging off my arm. Sass & Bide always do interesting jewelry with a tribal influence... some of which are on sale, so check them out!

ta ta talulah

Blush Jewel T-Shirt & Secret Kingdom Mini Skirt
To Be Your Lover Mini Dress . Come Live In My Heart Maxi Dress

I fell in love with Talulah when Kelli Wharton designed the first collection a few years ago. It was a dreamy line with soft hues and beautiful details - very me! Since then the brand has grown and developed into a more edgy label with classic silhouettes with unique details, making the clothes very wearable but effortlessly chic. The collections are well priced and affordable, with items for work or play. Talulah has stockists all over Australia, and if you can't get to one, order online!

Whether it be sequins, feathers, or the latest tie-dye fabrics (autumn 2011 pictured above) Talulah always surprises and leaves you with a smile.

crossing a new bridge

Bec and Bridge have surprised me with their latest collection Lovers and Nomads. I love the dip dyed hair and it works well with the nomad theme, along with the boho jewelry.

These pictures are part of the February delivery, more to come in March!

and more bags...

Wright Bags by Sepulveda
So I still can't decide on a bag. I have this weird thing about bags... they have to be simple, yet different. Sepulveda has great shapes and interesting textures.

On my wish list is the Wright 2 embossed suede in nude (bottom)!

sweet nothings

I love love love Mae! I felt terrible leaving you high and dry over the weekend without a post so today I'm doing two! Thanks to inspiration from Life In Style, I found mae's new home decals! Mae stickers are re-usable fabric stickers... non-toxic and biodegradable (mother nature approves). Another lovely feature is they are washable, so if your grubby fingers touch them (or some little person you may know) you don't have to worry! Check out their website (link above) for more information and more lovely designs...

Life In Style

1 Barbarian Hussy. 2 Chik. 3 Mae
4 Heaven In Earth.  5 Down To The Woods. 6 Almond Tree Designs

Every year in Sydney there is a trade fare full of beautiful designers who want you to stock their gorgeous products. Life In Style houses 300 exhibiters (with newbies every year). The fare ended on Sunday with Kids In Style on today. Some of the designers that caught my eye are pictured above, with Mae being one of my fav wall sticker companies! I hope you were lucky enough to go. Or maybe next year you will be one of the designers we get to have a peek at...

pantone pretty

Pantone mugs via Shop Until

My beautiful friend Kryssy gave me a pantone mug for chrissy! She remembered that I spied one in San Sebastian (Spain) while we were traveling last year. I received a gorgeous baby blue colour (Pantone 292C) and it sits on my mantle. Get your pretty pantone colours here...

kit and caboodle

Kit Cosmetics Nail polish (photos by paint the woods white)
Nail polish can be hard to get right. Girls out there will know how hard it is to find just the right one. But I've done it ladies!

I made this discovery a few years ago when Kit Cosmetics was starting to taking off. I found a colour I loved, and when I finally realised the significance of my discovery, I also realised that they were no longer making it! But I stuck with Kit until they released the same colour under a different name. Last week I ordered three extra bottles online, so now I have backups if they ever decide that winter takes no longer takes their breath away...

beautiful birds

Gorgeous things from Nancybird
(left to right, top to bottom)
Long Scarf Banksia  .  Nolan Bag Tan
Flax Bag Tan, Fabric  .  Angle Clutch Painting
Canvas Tote Painting  .  Bedford Bag Tan

I will finally admit that I need a new handbag. I bought this oversized leather tan bag from Tilkah afew years ago. I still love it, but I often get 'your bag is huge' comments.

"I could fit my daughter in your bag"
"Have you ever tried fitting in your bag?"
"Your entire life must be in there!"
"I would definitely call that an overnight bag..."

With these comments in mind, my search begins... and the best place to begin would have to be Nancybird! She has just released her Autumn/Winter 2011 range, and it's stunning! I am still a tan bag girl and you will see my favourites pictured above. The scarves are on my wish list!

happy v day!

1. Woodland cushion by Darling Clementine, 2. Please Don't Leave rug via Urban Outfitters, 3. Polka Dot card by Elly Oak,

It's that time of the year again to tell all your loved ones that... well... that you love them! I'm a heart girl myself... always drawing hearts on scrap bits of paper. Check out these little bits of love to make your day a little bit more lovely! I'm getting number 2 and 4 in my next box from Urban Outfitters (my obsession at the moment)

a good day for flying

One: Earrings by Polli, Two: Wooden laser cut butterflies by IndieLaser via Etsy, Three: Butterfly Studs by Pigeonhole, Four: Singlet by Something Else,  Five: Necklace by Polli.

Butterflies always brighten up my day when they flutter past. Butterflies flit in and out of fashion as unpredictably as the creatures themselves. I think everyone should have at least one wing hanging in their wardrobe. So check out these goodies...

festival weekend

Entrants from Linden Postcard Show 2010, I'm Better Off This Way by Kristen Phillips (split top and bottom), Otto by Chelsea Gustafsson (top left), Vibrant Beauty by Karen Adjani (top right), Run by Kate McGee (bottom left), Untitled 2 by Celeste Kininmoth (bottom right).
So if you live anywhere near St Kilda you probably have been to St Kilda Festival. Sunday is the last day and is typically known for having great live music. There are also visual arts events that are free! Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts has held the Linden Post Card Show every year. So if you're looking for something to do this weekend head down to Acland Street, and if you can't make it this weekend, the exhibition doesn't close until March 26th!

welcome to the woods

On my mantelpiece you will find the following... a cute print by Me and Amber, a Holga 35mm camera and The Photo Album by Frankie.

So I just realised that I should introduce this new blog and myself!

I want to focus on Australian designers (and some art and culture). All the blogs I love are from places far far away, and we are missing our own voice in Australia. So here I am to share with you what makes me smile. I want to include some of our international friends, but try to include only those who we can get pretty things from... all the way here in Australia!

Living in Melbourne and loving it! After traveling Europe and North America last year, I realised we live in an amazing city full of life, art and culture. Traveling was amazing and gave me a chance to experience a range of cultures and a completely different lifestyle. Being back, I have decided to see where my design degree can take me... and right now it's taking me into the woods (my cats have decided to come along for the ride)...

The name 'paint the woods white' came to me while looking at my christmas tree (and yes I am aware it's February) mixed with some inspiration from my mantelpiece - both of which are pictured. I also love white, things just pop on a white background.

Please enjoy exploring the woods with me...
