a stitch in time

Maurizio Anzeri works with vintage photographs to create new pieces. Some are colourful and others are more subtle, but all have a new life. Maurizio is an Italian artist who now works and lives in London. He has developed this style through experimenting with the found photographs through ink drawing and eventually stitching geometric patterns to express a feeling or pattern derived from the image. Please explore the many faces he has touched.

present and correct

Wow I love many if not all. Love the birthday card box (pictured top). I could just eat it up it's so cute! And who doesn't want to be king for a day... give someone the crown card (second from top).

The lovely bits and pieces and more are by Present and Correct.

fontastic

Amazing vector fonts by Hand Made Font. Want all and more!

it was just how you looked in the light...

I love the short, sharp, clever lines Alex Cornell selected to use for his (hypothetical) Wes Anderson Film Festival advertising campaign. The use of tilt-shift photography really suits the playful nature of the text that selected from films Wes Anderson has directed. Alex Cornell has a whole range of interesting projects you can find on his website. Playful and pretty!

miniature magic

I thought I should share with you some of my favourite credits ever. Big claim, I know. But I just love them. This collaboration between Style A Go-Go and Nick Pledge has provided a clever thoughtful opening to a clever and thoughtful television series... Tangle. Tangle is a drama starring some of the best talent Australia has to offer. If you haven't had a look yet, then you must hire it at your local dvd store. You can also view the credits here...

domestic construction

"That sound of scissors cutting through thick paper. The smell of the glue and feel of the fabric. Design that embraces the senses and, above all, sticks in the mind. " If you want to know what domestic construction are all about... that is how they describe themselves. Grounded is just one of many projects the design due, Trish Andersen & Maureen Walsh, have been involved in. In face it is their project resulting in their product! You can buy them too! Each mat is dyed with an original hand-cut paper design created by the girls. I love paper cut out designs!

help me zara

So in a last minute attempt to find something worthy of a job interview... I walked the thirty minutes to Oxford Street to pop into Zara. I found and I bought. Here were some lovely pieces that I found and I wanted. The dress I bought, I could not find to show you... but it's a little bit more daring for me as it's an animal print and some-what sheer. The sales were great and I will go back for more when I land a new job! Super excited so they better hire me quick-smart.

the trek to the tate

Teenage Couple in Hudson Street N.Y.C 1963

While walking to the Tate Modern the other day, I realised that I hadn't thought through my grand plan. After about 30 minutes of walking, I started to ache all over and evaluated my physical and mental state. Having been in London for about a week, you would assume I would be over my jet-lag. Would you not? Well you would be mistaken.

Staying in a youth hostel had made this nearly impossible, as people tend to come and go in the night. On one particular night, I had gotten to bed at about 1.30 am, as no-one in my room was particularly tired. I then awoke at 4.30 am to a room-mate taking out an iPod from the security cage directly under my head. After that, I could not get another wink of sleep, the sun had begun to rise and the room was flooded with light. Don't get me started on the people who left at 12am and returned at 4am... there have been a few restless nights.

I have also been dealing with a rather odd injury... something (I say something because I can't see what) on the roof of my mouth has been hurting every time I eat. I have therefore been restricted to soft foods and my diet has consisted of soggy cornflakes and ice-cream. On top of lack of sleep and nutrients, I had a sore throat and the beginnings of a sniffle and cough. (I'm starting to sound like a complainer). But the point I am trying to make is that I had to take two breaks on my walk as I felt physically ill. But I got there... and while I was tempted to just go home, I found a lovely exhibition of works by Diane Arbus. While I wondered trough a few more exhibitions, this one stuck with me as her subjects are so intriguing.

If you get a chance have a look-see at the Tate Modern, it appears that you have a year until she will no longer be showing, so take your time.

i have & i want

After being in London for only five days, I stumbled across a design market Artsmart. Couldn't believe my luck! I was proud of myself - not going crazy and buying everything in sight.

However I did support the local designers by purchasing a ceramic tooth necklace from Lovely Mon Story. I was going to purchase the ceramic camera, but the tooth has more meaning to me, as I have such bad luck with my teeth, now I have one spare just in case.

I also purchased a cute heart tote by Heart Zeena which I can't wait to use to carry my laptop. She also does badges, sticky tapes, pin cushions, cushions and cards. Each design is as lovely as the next and I heart them all!

Ralli design are a brother sister duo who have designed beautiful earthenware ceramics, which makes them light and easy to hold. Shuffle is the design solution that drew me to their stand. It's a stackable desk storage system which comes in both black and white. The Fika tea-set doedn't disappoint with another clever stacking storage design. The cups are designed to it in the palm of your hand, which I love because there may not always be a little side-table around when you are enjoying a steamy cup of tea or coffee. I think the guy behind the stand was disappointed when I didn't purchase a set. But I currently don't have a permanent residence so I couldn't possibly buy a set of ceramics. I would be asking for trouble.

I was so impressed by the design market, I will post more interesting finds in days to come...

emma & paul

Did you know that people could be this clever? These beautiful photographs are by Paul Greenleaf from current and previous works. He has an intriguing collection of works called Correspondence, where he has taken found postcards, tracked down the exact location the photograph was taken, and re-photographed the scene in its present glory.

Cute, ceramic and adoptable. Emma Hardings charity shop orphans need a home. They come named and are part of a family of similarly coloured animals. It's also a great way to up-cycle, an environmentally conscious practice which is becoming more popular.

the positive brief

It's on! Positive Posters revealed the brief for 2011 and it's a little different from previous years. Check out the case study Help Japan and entries from previous years Us.

THE BRIEF
Positive Posters provides a shared platform that encourages designers to be proactive in shaping important issues. We believe in the ability of design to inspire minds, change attitudes and spark revolutions.
The 2011 Positive Posters brief asks you to design a poster that highlights or exposes an issue specific to your own country, someone else’s or one that is international. It could be social, environmental or political; anything that you believe deserves a global audience and could be better seen or understood.
This is an opportunity for you to make a positive contribution towards an issue by presenting it to a global audience. We don’t want to tell you what’s important; we’d like you to tell us what’s important to you.
